Bishop Clarence Okonkwo Allegedly Murdered by Driver in Delta
Shock and grief have spread across church and community circles in Delta State following the killing of Bishop Clarence Chinedu Okonkwo, who was reportedly murdered at his residence in Ibusa near Asaba.
The killing was reported late Tuesday, with details of the incident beginning to circulate widely by Wednesday morning.
According to reports, the cleric was allegedly attacked by his personal driver, identified as Uchenna Nicholas Obiagwu, who police sources say struck him with a pestle before fleeing with the bishop’s vehicle and mobile phones.
Investigators believe the suspect left the scene shortly after the attack.
The suspect was later reportedly arrested in Onitsha alongside another individual believed to be his brother while allegedly attempting to arrange the sale of the stolen Toyota Land Cruiser.

Images circulating online appeared to show the recovered vehicle and the suspects after their arrest.

The incident has triggered outrage across social media and within religious communities, with many expressing disbelief over the brutal nature of the killing and the circumstances surrounding it.

Residents familiar with the area described the development as deeply disturbing, noting that Bishop Okonkwo was a respected cleric and familiar figure within the local Christian community.
Several reactions online also reflected growing concerns over violent crimes allegedly involving domestic staff and trusted associates.
As of Wednesday evening, police had not issued a full official briefing on the incident, although investigations were believed to be ongoing.

For many residents, however, the tragedy has left behind a more painful question — how a relationship built on trust allegedly ended in such deadly violence.
